Most people have never seen this pattern. That's because it almost never existed.
Desert Night Camo was developed by the US Army after Vietnam — a grid-like pattern specifically designed to defeat Soviet night vision technology. Field tests ran from 1976. Limited distribution began in 1981. By the mid-1990s it was discontinued, rendered obsolete by advances in night vision that outpaced it entirely.
It had a brief life. It left behind one of the most visually striking patterns in military history.
